The Authentic Barnsley Chop
As this is such a lengthy process we request that you order your Barnsley chop a few days in advance to avoid any disappointment.
Whilst many restaurants claim that they serve the genuine Barnsley chop, very few keep to the actual cut of meat that was introduced by Albert Hirst on the 14th December 1933, for the official opening of Barnsley Town Hall. The presentation of a 1lb/6oz Barnsley chop to Edward Prince of Wales, was his introduction to a true delicacy in Yorkshire cuisine, a feast to which the Prince of Wales couldn’t finish.
The art of cooking the meat the traditional way is a slow and loving process that few restaurants have the time or patience for, and instead of this they introduce second rate imitations on to their menus. This fantastic cut of meat is part of the heritage of Barnsley and with this in mind its only right that we keep this in its original form and allow our customers to savour in a real traditional Barnsley treat.
The authentic version of the chop that we serve is prepared as a very thick chop cut just above the kidney on the carcus and cooked extremely slowly. As this is such a lengthy process we request that you order your Barnsley chop a few days in advance to avoid any disappointment.
